- Martha Stewart wishes she were my mom. After a full childhood watching (and learning from) my mother in so many different artistic aspects of her life (painting, flower drying, ceramics, sewing, cooking, writing, lace making, and on and on and on), it really is no wonder that I ended up on the wedding map in the business world. I started by catching butterflies for my mother’s flower arrangements at a whopping half a penny pay per butterfly…more for the monarch and swallowtail varieties…and then moved into sewing at age 9, tatting at 14, and wedding planning at 18. Armed with a fraction of my mother’s abilities, I dabbled in decorating, catering, and invitations, but fell head over heels in love with the flowers. I pursued the passion of weddings on the side of secretarial jobs, a year as a nanny in New York, and during school, but when I married a photographer, the combination was inescapable, and Weddings by Woodbury was born. Jon and I have focused our talents, and now offer a great combination of amazing photography and beautiful flowers…and, having been a wedding planner for 18 years, I can’t help passing out helpful advice along with the bouquets.
